What is a thermally broken door?

Thermally broken’ means there is a vacuum or “break” between the external and internal elements, making the transition of external cold or heat up to 1000 times slower.

Put simply your home stays cooler in summer and warmer in winter, saving money on your heating and cooling bills. The other benefit not commonly spoken about is the sound insulation benefits. Specifically with our tilt and turn windows, the locking technique allows for full sealing of the windows, minimising any noise.

What difference can a thermal door make?

A thermal break is beneficial for the maintenance of any internal temperature. Untreated facades are responsible for more than 85% of summer’s heat transferring indoors (and almost half of the heat lost in winter), by significantly reducing the thermal transition from external to internal, thermally broken aluminium systems excel at keeping indoors cool, significantly reducing the need for air conditioning or heating.

One area that is difficult to quantify is the health benefit of thermally broken windows and doors. Have you ever noticed the condensation building up on the inside of your window? This is eliminated with thermally broken double glazed windows along with any mould build up. We think this is normal, however it’s a design practice that is long outdated and due for an upgrade.

Are they really worth it?
